GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
THE SCHOOL DAY
School starts promptly at 8.50am. The school opens at 8.45 am. Lunch is from 12.15pm to 1.20pm. The school day ends at 3.30pm. There is a morning and afternoon playtime to provide opportunity for the children to develop social skills. Most lessons are approximately one hour long, although time is used flexibly on occasions to enable both teachers and pupils to study in depth. For example, we have History and Technology days.

DISCIPLINE
At Bilton Junior School we believe that all children have the right to learn in a safe environment that is conducive to learning. We also believe that mutual respect is at the heart of successful school relationships. We value parental support in helping children to understand appropriate school behaviour.
We encourage good work and behaviour through a wide range of rewards including house points, merit badges, stars and certificates.
Inappropriate behaviour at school will always be challenged. If we have concerns about your child’s behaviour we will ask you to help in sorting it out. We find most behavioural problems can be solved if home and school work in partnership.
BULLYING AND RACISM
The school treats bullying and racism as serious matters and has policies for dealing with these issues.
Bullying of either a verbal or physical nature or racism are not acceptable. Parents should bring all incidents of bullying and racism to the teachers and Headteacher's attention, so that the matter can be dealt with swiftly.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
The Governing Body of Bilton C of E Junior School provides a safe and healthy environment for all persons present on the school site. It ensures that all reasonable and practical steps are taken to maintain such an environment. It also ensures that potential hazards are reduced to a minimum by regular inspection and appropriate action.
COMPLAINTS
There is an approved procedure for dealing with complaints about the school curriculum, charging policies in relation to the curriculum, provision of RE etc. If you have a concern or query you should contact the school so that the matter can be discussed with the Headteacher. It is expected that the majority of questions and anxieties can be dealt with in this way. However if complaints cannot be resolved then the formal procedures involving the Governors and or L.E.A. can be invoked. Information regarding complaints is available from the school.
