Our School Staff
The teaching team at BJS consists of a professional group of ‘hard working and conscientious staff'.
Some of the staff have worked at the school for many years and have been joined by new members
to create a team that maintains worthwhile traditions but welcomes new ideas. We value co-operation
at our school. Not only are children encouraged to work as group members when appropriate,
but teachers also work in teams to plan together and share expertise.
The school is divided into year group teams with a senior member of staff as Team Leader. Each year group has 3 classes. Our standard number is 105 pupils per year group. Children are set for Maths and English throughout the school and are taught in groups usually smaller than the class for these subjects.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS - S.E.N.
We have two Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators
Mrs Allan - Years 3 and 4
Miss York - Years 5 and 6
We have 3 support teachers who work with the less confident pupils in literacy and numeracy lessons,
these sets contain a maximum of 15 children.
Mrs. A. Allan - Year 3 Literacy and Numeracy.
Mrs. E. Davies - Year 4 Literacy and Numeracy and Year 5 Numeracy.
Mrs. K. Webb - Year 5 Literacy and Year 6 Literacy and Numeracy.
Also we have a number of teaching assistants who work with small groups of children within lessons and withdrawn from lessons to support te learning needs of the children on The Special Educational Needs (SEN) register.
The Special Educational Needs (SEN) register is the list of children who have SEN. This list is used by the school to ensure the correct support is given to your child and that it is monitored. The class teacher will talk further with you if they feel your child would benefit from this extra support. Your child will either be placed at School Action or School Action Plus on the register. You would then be involved in the setting and reviewing of targets to help your child to progress, this is called an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
BJS has various support programmes in place, it will depend on the needs of your child to which programme or type of support they would receive. This would be discussed with you at parents evening or at review meetings.
These are the programmes of support we offer at School Action:
Catch Up - reading and spelling for Years 3 & 4
Starspell - a progressive computer program which children work on throughout the school.
SULP group - Social Use of Language Programme for Years 3 & 4, looks at social skills
Toe by Toe - an individual reading and spelling programme for Year 5 & 6
Power of 2 - an individual maths programme for Years 5 & 6
At School Action Plus we would involve external specialist teachers from outside agencies depending on your child's needs and offer more individual or small group support.
Learning and Behaviour Support Services (LABSS) - Tina Price, Janine Morgan, Alison Booth, Val Valentine (IDS).
Disability, Impairment, Communication Service (DISCS) - The specialist depends on the needs of the child.
Educational Psychologist - Eve Wilkinson who assesses childrens' needs.
Speech and Language Therapy Service (SALT) - Therapist from the Orchard Centre.
If you would like to discuss SEN with an independent person then Warwickshire has a Parent Partnership service,

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UNDERTAKEN BY TEACHNG STAFF
Staff at BJS undertake a wide range of training and school based activities to develop their skills and bring new ideas to enhance the learninig and teaching at our school. Training reflects the areas for development identified by our own self evaluation and highlighted in our Single Integrated Development Plan. Training is also available for Teachers and Teaching Assistants and all adults working in our school who wish to develop their indiviual expertise. Teachers have subject responsibilities and are responsible for monitoring their curriculum areas across the school and sharing good practice. Policies are produced and revised on a regular basis. In addition to 5 training days used for Development and Planning, writing reports to parents, liason between year groups to ensure smooth transition for pupils and policy review, the teachers have fortnightly staff meetings and weekly year group planning meetings.
At staff meetings we revise policy, discuss approaches to teaching and plan events. During year group planning meetings teachers plan collaboratively to share expertise to deliver the National Curriculum effectively.
