Homework Information Sheet for Year 3 pupils
Children will be set the following homework on a weekly basis:
All Year 3 children will be given spellings on alternate Mondays and have a spelling test on the following Monday. Alternate Mondays there will be a creative writing exercise.
In addition they will be given associated homework e.g. to write each word in a sentence or to find other words with the same spelling pattern. This work should take about 40 minutes to complete - 20 minutes for sentences etc. and 20 minutes “look, cover, write, check” learning of spellings.
TABLES AND NUMBER BONDS to learn. Children will be told which tables to learn on Thursday and be tested on the following Thursday. This work should take about 20 minutes to complete.
READING Children should bring their reading book home 3 times a week and read to an adult. Each time they read a school book at home, the home/school reading diary needs to be completed. Children should spend at least two hours reading at home each week and read a wide range of texts including library books and magazines. Children also enjoy and benefit from being read to by an adult or older sister or brother.
