2nd September 2021

Dear Families

I hope that you have all had a restful summer break and are looking forward to your child/children returning to, or starting school.

School attendance is mandatory for all pupils of compulsory school age and it is priority to ensure that as many children as possible regularly attend school.

The safety and well-being of all our staff and families remains our number one priority. We believe that the following measures will help to keep all members of our community as safe as possible, whilst minimising any impact on pupils’ educational experience regarding Covid-19.

On-site arrangements for September

1. Promote good hygiene for everyone.

2. Maintain appropriate cleaning regimes.

3. Keep occupied spaces well ventilated.

4. Follow public health advice on testing, self-isolation and managing confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Contact tracing and self-isolation

School will continue to follow latest guidance from the DfE and from the Local Public Health Protection team. This includes:

  • If anyone in our school develops COVID-19 symptoms, however mild, we will send them home and advise a PCR test is taken.

If PCR result is negative:

no self-isolation is required by those aged under 18 years and 6 months and they can return to school

If PCR result is positive: Whoever has tested positive must continue to self-isolate for 10 full days after the day of symptom onset/test (if no symptoms) – which is day 0

Self-isolation ends on day 11 if well and no fever on days 9 and 10. If fever ongoing on days 9 or 10, continue to self-isolate until fever-free for 48 hr and well.

Cough and loss/change in taste/smell may continue beyond day 10.

If symptoms start whilst isolating, isolation period starts again - day of symptom onset = day 0

Self- isolation means they must not leave the house and must not attend school during the isolation period. Please inform school as soon as possible of a positive PCR result via bjsoffice@biltonjuioschool.co.uk

If a parent or carer insists on a pupil attending our school, we may take the decision to refuse the pupil if, in our reasonable judgement, it is necessary to protect other pupils and staff from possible infection with COVID-19.

We will maintain our capacity to deliver high quality remote education for the next academic year, in the event that any pupil is unable to attend school due to Covid-19. Details on how to access learning remotely will be sent home shortly, and you are advised to check that you know how to access this BEFORE you may need it.

In addition to following national guidance, we have considered the unique nature of our school and the school community. As a result, we have identified specific arrangements that we will have in place:

  • Follow the hands – face – space - ventilation guidance.
  • Children will continue to use the drive for entry in the mornings between 8:30 – 8:50.Years 4/5/6 will leave at 3:30 pm and year 3 at 3:35 pm.
  • Although there is no requirement to wear face coverings in law, the government recommends that they are worn in enclosed and crowded spaces where you may come into contact with people you don't normally meet. For this reason, we ask that you continue to wear masks on site and do not enter the building until further notice.
  • Children from different year groups will mix again e.g. assemblies, lunchtimes and playtimes.
  • P.E. uniform should be worn on P.E. days. School uniform should be worn on the other days.
  • If attending an afterschool club please bring appropriate clothes to change into.
  • The Haven continues to offer before and after school care.

In addition, we have contingency plans with additional measures should we need to implement them. These will be considered in line with advice from Public Health, kept to the minimum number of groups possible, and for the shortest amount of time possible, to allow any outbreak of Covid-19 to be managed and minimise transmission. Any changes will be notified to you via email.

We look forward to seeing you soon and thank you in advance for your support with these matters.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Webb
