‘Pupils’ eyes light up when they talk about the topics that they cover in the curriculum.’ OFSTED February 2018

Religious Education is really important to us at BJS, for us it has never been more relevant, engaging or challenging as religion & religious issues are in the news every day. As a Church School and as a 'No Outsiders' School we love learning about faiths and religions. We have many faiths represented as part of our community and we take every opportunity to celebrate the major festivals as part of our school offer.

From the pupils first day at BJS, R.E. gives them valuable insights into the diverse beliefs & opinions held by people today. It helps with their own personal development & supports an understanding of the spiritual, moral, social & cultural questions that surface again & again in their lives. In tackling difficult questions it provides pupils with insight that can work to challenge stereotypes and promote cohesion. For our pupils being able to understand our constantly changing world they need to be able to interpret religious issues & evaluate their significance. R.E. at BJS is important work encouraging young people to value themselves & the community within which we live.

We use a combination of the Warwickshire Agreed Syllabus and a scheme called 'Understanding Christianity' which gives the children a wide and in depth knowledge of all major religions.

Mastery in R.E. encourages questioning to widen pupils' view of the world through the lense of religion and other cultures and why people believe and have faith.
