English

Words have the power to inspire, inform, entertain and connect us with others. At Bilton Church of England Junior School, our English curriculum places reading, writing and spoken language at the heart of children's learning, opening doors to imagination, creativity and opportunity. We strive to develop a genuine love of reading by introducing pupils to a rich variety of high-quality texts, authors, genres and literary experiences. Through purposeful writing opportunities, children learn to communicate effectively, develop their own writing style and express their ideas with confidence. Grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary are taught progressively, providing the essential tools children need to become skilled and independent writers. Equally important is the development of speaking and listening, with pupils encouraged to share opinions, participate in discussions, perform and listen respectfully to others. Our ambition is for every child to become a confident reader, a thoughtful writer and an articulate communicator, equipped with the literacy skills needed to flourish throughout their education and beyond.
