History
At Bilton Church of England Junior School, we believe that History inspires children to become curious, thoughtful and enthusiastic learners who are eager to discover how the past has shaped the world we live in today. Through our engaging and progressive History curriculum, pupils develop a secure understanding of significant historical events, people, periods and civilisations, both in Britain and across the wider world. Children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate historical sources, explore different perspectives and develop their own informed opinions about the past. As they progress from Year 3 to Year 6, pupils build upon their chronological understanding, historical knowledge and enquiry skills, developing the confidence to make connections, recognise change and continuity, and understand cause and consequence. Our curriculum also promotes an appreciation of different cultures, societies and beliefs, helping children develop respect, empathy and a deeper understanding of their own heritage and that of others. Guided by our school vision, Inspire, Challenge, Achieve, we aim to nurture inquisitive, reflective and independent historians who recognise the importance of learning from the past to better understand the present and shape the future.
