Mathematics
At BJS, we believe that every child can succeed in mathematics. Our aim is to develop confident, resilient mathematicians who enjoy exploring numbers, recognising patterns and solving problems. We provide a carefully sequenced curriculum that enables children to develop fluency in fundamental mathematical skills, deepen their conceptual understanding and apply their knowledge to a wide range of situations. Through discussion, practical resources, visual representations and mathematical reasoning, pupils are encouraged to explain their methods, make connections and discover that there is often more than one way to approach a challenge. We celebrate mistakes as valuable opportunities for learning and encourage children to persevere when faced with unfamiliar problems. By making mathematics meaningful and relevant to everyday life, we want every pupil to leave BJS with strong foundations, a positive attitude towards the subject and the confidence to tackle future mathematical challenges.
